On December 10, 2008, the Wittelsbach Blue diamond, an historic 17th century cushion-shaped fancy deep grayish blue diamond weighing 35.56 carats, was sold for an incredible $24,311,190.00 — this is a world record hammer price for any jewel sold at auction. The gemstone was purchased by diamantaire, Laurence Graff.

Yesterday I attended the preview of Van Cleef & Arpels’ newest collection, Les Jardins (The Gardens) at The Plaza in New York.
